OCSC: Why do you sail?
MW: I enjoy the racing/performance side of the sport the most and still enjoy cruising/sailing in new locations.
OCSC: What do you enjoy about working at OCSC?
MW: First and foremost, the great staff at OCSC Sailing make the work more than enjoyable. The organization's commitment to delivering the best training in the industry is a key element, and the great folks that we get to sail with rounds it out.
OCSC: What's your sailing background?
MW: I started sailing with my parents on the Great Lakes before I was walking. I then progressed to racing dinghies when I was eight years old and have competed for over four decades in Dragons, Six Meters, IOR Level, PHRF and One Design Classes. I've raced at the local District, National, North American and World Championship levels with some success. I've sailed, cruised and done deliveries on both the West and East Coasts, Mexico, BVI's, Tonga, New Zealand, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Med.
OCSC: When you're not sailing, what can we find you doing?
MW: I am the V.P. of Client Services for Touchstone Management Consultants. We are a strategy implementation consulting organization delivering our services globally to the large energy companies. Our clients include Chevron, CalTex, Texaco and Unocal.
OCSC: What are your top five sailing books of all time?
MW: C.S. Forester, The Hornblower series; Paul Elvstrom, Racing Tactics; Patrick O'Brien, The Aubrey/Maturin series; John Rousmaniere, Fastnet Force 10'; Wallace Ross, Sail Power.
